Circles and Lines. Be Unable to See the Colorful Death Star.

A line is just a circle, albeit with an infinite radius.

Years ago, during the dark ages of the pandemic, I was totally into stereographic projection.

There is so much to unpack; you go deeper and deeper into rabbit holes of physics and math, spinning, rotating, and boosting until you are dizzy.

Or you can just draw circles and lines. Challenge yourself by drawing so many lines on bumpy watercolor paper.

Color your shapes. And be unable to unsee the colorful Death Star once you added your first alien-spaceship-hatch-like circle.

Traditional descriptive geometry, axonometry based on the projections from "above" and from "the side". Pencil, watercolor pencil, ballpoint pen, gel pen on watercolor paper.

Circles on the surface of the sphere are projected onto the equatorial plane, by connecting each point of the circle to the North Pole and intersecting this connecting ray with the base plane.

The closer a point is to the North Pole, the farther away from the origin of the co-ordinate frame the projection target is. The North Pole itself is mapped onto infinity. In a map of the Earth constructed in this way, the North Pole would be missing; you would need another projection from the South Pole to cover the Northern hemisphere completely.

I have already created poetry by harvesting my pontificating on the elliptical cone and stereographic projection. So, I am using another seed phrase now:

Color your shapes. And be unable to unsee the colorful Death Star once you added your first alien-spaceship-hatch-like circle.

I am searching for this phrase in a private browser window, on DuckDuckGo. I pick a short snippet from each returned page or document, one after the other, in the order of the search results. I am not allowed to go back, re-order or edit.

Be Unable to Unsee the Colorful Death Star

bounded by a space-time of experience
grounding and deeply disorienting
Like A Dome Of Many-colored Glass
We’re going to rewire your brain

say the right thing
always look on the bright side of
The Human Form, a fiery Forge
trying to muddle through the dark

determine the meaning of new words
in a picturesque or unusual location
both metaphorically and symbolically
Must I observe you?

Danger and compassion
trained with your data
resemble the olden-time metrical-flood
Without your art, you are nothing

Because I could not stop
Stuff your eyes with wonder
which goes against expectations for the sky
endlessly changing colors in between

This was an interesting, if not creepy experience of creating found poetry. Obviously, the word Death has been given strong emphasis by the search engines. The raw material has comprised texts about grieving and coping with death, and related classical literature and poetry, e.g. by Shakespeare, William Blake, or Oscar Wilde.
