Poinsot’s Dancing Cones

Poinsot's construction, stage 4. Motion of a gyroscope visualized by looking at three cones that dance with each other. The red and violet cones represent the state at two points in time. The red cones roll along the surface of the blue cone, and its axis traces out the yellow cone. Constructed with graphite pencil as an axonometric projection based on the views from the top and from the side. Final stage of the drawing: Colored all the "cells" of the background. Watercolor pencil and watercolor markers on canvas board. By elkement 2025.
