I’ve rendered them often, as crazy balloon dogs or mysterious moths.
I’ve set them free.
I’ve put them into perspective.
Now I see Spherical Harmonics as festive ornaments, applying my signature style of metallic tubes.
I wish you all peaceful holidays – sending you my festive orbitals intertwined with Found Poetry!

The Making Of
Found Poetry
I am searching in a private Google window for “Festive” “Spherical” “Harmonic” “Functions” “Orbital” “Bloom” – using the double quotes to insist on all words being included. I omit search results pointing to my own postings of these images elsewhere on the internet, search results in foreign languages, and suspicious-looking results.
I am clicking on each link in the search results: nearly all are PDF documents: academic papers, proceedings or art conferences, resources for teachers, university curricula, (probably not 100% authorized) scans of books, even a .mil reference. Wonderful obscure references, many of them hundreds of pages long. I usually jump to the middle of the documents!
I pick on short phrase from each of the documents without having looked at the next one.
Repeat until the poem feels done. No editing or re-arranging allowed.
Digital Art
… has been created with my hand-crafted JavaScript code based on the framework threejs. No AI involved.
I am using the Spherical Harmonic function known as Y_33: A function of two angles defining co-ordinates on a unit sphere, like longitude and latitude. A function of two variables describes a surface. This surface looks about like six hamburger buns located in the corners of a hexagon.
Instead of rendering a continuous surface, I am drawing a grid on the surface with code: Lines of constant “longitude” angle. Then I promote the lines to metallic tubes.

What I Learned
“acanthus”, “acapulco”, “accede” was part of a dictionary, as well as links linoleum linseed lint lion.
I amended (broke) my own rules by omitting further references to dictionaries
Re “A client error happened”: This looked like a promising search result with great words in the preview. “A client error happened” was the only text you saw when clicking on it. This resource appeared more than once in the results – the “chorus”!
we’re respecting your choice was a Javascript popup, the respected my choice related to the DNT (Do Not Track) setting. It looked legit but I was not interested in investigating it further. So, I did not click it, and the pop-up was the only content I got.
I should probably do my poetry work on a standalone virtual machine I delete every time!
I found a page / blog article by regional government – with more than 14.000 comments, all spam. This page alone would have been great raw material for poetry!

The time I use my titles as seeds for Found Poetry I often discover that the term has already been used before.
This time, I learned that Orbital Bloom is …
~ an interactive data-driven artwork that flourishes on sustainable use of energy.
~ the name of an artist’s shop for prints and apparel.
~ an art video showing a synthesized and bubbling environment.
And I figured, I was innovative in picking this title!
I wonder if I am going to rename my Orbital Bloom before I will upload it to print platforms?
